Janssen Families

The Performance Birds are those that have had outstanding flying performances prior to our acquiring the birds. They may or may not be members of any of the families that we have. Their flying records are shown in brief below. They have been both excellent flyers and breeders. They are really outstanding birds!!

The Verkerk Janssen are those that we have acquired directly from Bas & Gerard Verkerk, or bred from birds that are directly from the Verkerks. Their birds are primarily DeKlak Janssen. They excell at distance up to 400 miles. They will do well on a atail wind 500, but are not designed for the hard 500 or 600 miles races. Their birds, like many other European birds, are often a bit larger than we are accustomed to. The Verkerks are perhaps the "hottest" loft in Eurpoe for the past 5-10 years. Look at the results of the parents of these birds!!

For more information on our Verkerk Janssen, read this article about G&S Verkerk, Alphen aan den Rejn from the Aug/Sept issue of Feathers Magazine.

Winners Category 8 National Competition Eendaagse Fondspiegel

When the results of the new national competition for one day long distance races Nationale Eendaagse Fondspiegel, were presented, the father and son partnership Verkerk appeared to be the winners in category 8.  [read the entire article]

Verbree Janssen are those birds we have acquired from Co and Piet Verbree, or those that are related to their birds. Like the Verkerks, their birds are also primarily DeKlak Janssen.  Co & Piet Verbree are best know in the USA for producing "Super Champion" (aka "Olympic Orlando"). Their birds also excell in races up to 400 miles. They will fly a tail wind 500, but are not designed for a hard 500 or 600 mile race. We only have a few of these ourstanding birds, but they are all really nice!!

The "969" Janssen are, of course, descended from the prepotent direct Janssen BELG-80-6305969, better known as "969". "969" was 18 X's 1st for the Janssen Brothers. He was a sunshine bird. He excelled on the days when the sunshine was good. He was not a bad weather flyer. His children are essentially the same. The do very well when the weather is good. They do not do especially well it is overcast or rainy. They are a speed birds and excell at races up to 8 hours on the wing. They can fly the tail wind 500s. Heat and head winds do not seem to bother them, but they like the sun.

The "DeKlak Janssen" are birds that originally came from the Janssen Brothers to Jos Van Limpt (De Klak).  De Klak means 'the hat'. Jos Van Limpt always wore a "funky" little hat, and thus his name. When they left Jos Van Limpt they were "DeKlak Janssen".  DeKlak flew primarily middle distance (150-300 miles) and developed his bird around this distance. Arie Van Beek flew only birds directly from DeKlak and he excelled at the 400 mile races. So they will certainly fly 400 and 500 miles, but prefer a slight tail wind when doing the longer distances. They are typically tough, strong birds, and a bit bigger than many US birds. Unlike the "969" they will fly in cloudy weather very well. Most of our DeKlak come from the late Jos Leuris, Holland. They have been excellent!!
